Item #06221

A terra-cotta figure of a youthful, curly-haired Eros, seated on a stump with proper left leg resting on proper right knee, holding a heart in his hand, with bow resting in the crook of his arm, and a quiver with arrows slung over his shoulder, on a circular base with a birdbath molded as a hollowed stump with scattered leaves; the columnar pedestal ornamented with draped swags, American, ca. 1930. Overall 28 ins, high, 13 ins. wide, 14 ins. deep. Pedestal 14 ins. high, 15.25 diameter at top.

Eros’ pose is reminiscent of, and likely inspired by, the Greco-Roman figure, “Lo Spinario”, or “Boy with Thorn”.
