A composition stone wall plaque with arched top depicting the botanist and gardener, John Tradescant the Younger, standing in 17th-century dress with a spade in his proper left hand and a shovel in his proper right, by contemporary maker, Haddonstone, English, ca. 2000. 28 ins. high, 22 ins. wide.

John Tradescant the Younger (1608-1662) was an English horticulturist who journeyed to Virginia several times between 1628 and 1637 to collect specimens to bring back to England. He introduced American trees such as magnolia, bald cypress, and tulip to English gardens, along with plants including phlox and asters.
