A two-tier cast-iron fountain with two fountain bowls, the lower bowl larger, each bowl with scalloped edge and cherub masks on the underside, the smaller bowl surmounted by a fountain spout with four floral medallions, the whole top section supported by a classically draped cherub figure placed in the center of the larger bowl, the whole atop a molded baluster with volute scrolls and cherub masks, French, ca. 1870.
This fountain appears in the ca. 1858 catalog of Barbezat & Cie., a foundry that operated in Paris from 1855 until 1868, when it was folded into the large consortium of foundries known collectively as the Sociéte Anonyme des Hauts-Fourneaux du Val d’Osne. It also appears in subsequent catalogs produced by the Sociéte, including one issued in ca. 1870.
