Lily of the Valley Chairs

Lily of the Valley Chairs

Item #06646

A group of four cast-iron armchairs in the lily of the valley pattern, with naturalistically rendered lily of the valley foliage and flowers, with pierced seat, English, ca. 1880.

33.5 ins. high, 26 ins. wide, 24.5 ins. deep

The lily of the valley design originates with the Coalbrookdale Company of Shropshire, England; both the chair and a matching settee appeared in the firm’s 1875 catalog (the chair was pattern #S36, the settee #36). The chair and settee were subsequently offered by a number of American iron foundries, including J.W. Fiske Iron Works and J.L. Mott Iron Works, both of New York, and William McHose & Company of Dayton, Ohio.
