A fine pair of “Oak Tree”, or rustic twig, pattern cast-iron seats, the naturalistic arched back, seat and arms cast as branches with acorn clusters, on conforming trunk feet joined by entwined serpents, marked “Janes Beebe”, American (New York), cast between 1847-1859.

Janes, Beebe & Co. was one of the most important cast-iron foundries in pre-Civil War America, maintaining a large foundry on the Harlem River in the Melrose/Morrisania neighborhood of the Bronx, New York. The principals of the firm were Adrian Janes, William Beebe, Charles Fowler and Rowland A. Rollins. Upon the death of William Beebe, the name of the firm changed to Janes, Fowler & Kirtland.
